The Art of Awareness | Cultivating Attention Through Tea
Saturday, October 10 | 2:30–4:30 PM

Tea gives us a way to practice attention.

In this guided Saturday Tea Experience, we explore how slowing down changes what we notice — aroma, temperature, texture, flavor, finish, and the subtle evolution of tea from one infusion to the next.

Rather than rushing to identify tasting notes or reach conclusions, this session invites you to become more precise in how you observe. Through guided tasting, sensory exercises, and simple awareness practices, we will explore the difference between noticing, interpreting, and reacting — and how greater attention can deepen both our understanding of tea and the experience of drinking it.

This is not a formal meditation class. It is an exploration of presence through tea: learning to quiet some of the noise, sharpen perception, and discover how much is already there when we give something our full attention.

What to Expect

Tea as a Practice of Attention
Explore tea as a tool for slowing down and becoming more present with the senses. Learn how attention can change the way we experience aroma, flavor, texture, temperature, and time.

Guided Sensory Tasting
Taste a thoughtfully selected progression of teas while observing how each develops in the cup. We’ll look beyond simple flavor identification and begin noticing structure, mouthfeel, finish, movement, and change across multiple infusions.

Observation Before Interpretation
Practice separating what you actually perceive from what you expect, assume, or immediately label. This simple distinction can dramatically deepen both sensory awareness and tea tasting skill.

The Evolution of Tea
Notice how a tea transforms as it opens — from dry leaf and aroma to liquor, texture, finish, and later infusions — and how your own perception may shift along with it.

A Different Kind of Tea Practice
Leave with a framework you can bring into your own tea drinking: one that values curiosity, patience, and attention over getting the “right” answer.

Who This Is For
The Art of Awareness is open to experienced tea drinkers and complete beginners alike. No previous tea or meditation experience is required — only curiosity and a willingness to pay attention.
